2017 has been a year of traveling around Asia and Africa, expanding my professional reach, and embracing personal transformation. On August 8, 2017, I decided to leave my home city Vancouver BC to relocate to Singapore. I announced my decision to friends and family, and set out on my Hero’s Journey through Hong Kong to Singapore.

At the time of this writing, I have been living in Asia for 12.5 weeks. Due to the strict visitation/immigration laws in Singapore, I have only been granted a maximum of 30 days per visit. Hence my time in Asia has already included one visa run, which I have chosen Hong Kong as my destination.

During my escape to Hong Kong, I joined the local location for ProductTank, a meetup that brings together the product community to share experiences and knowledge. There are multiple ProductTank locations that span over 100 cities around the world, and I had been a part of ProductTank Vancouver for the past 3 years.

I am honored to be invited as the international speaker for ProductTank Hong Kong’s 4th meetup on how to leverage cognitive biases in product management. Details of my talk are live here on the ProductTank HK page.

Many thanks to href=”http://papercliphk.com/en/academy/fromAdvantage” target=”_blank”>PaperclipHK for graciously agreeing to hosting my presentation at their site. Details of this event are also shown on their events page.

When developing a strategy to solve a problem, we often approach the problem with a mindset that makes us blind to more efficient solutions. Cognitive biases also impair human judgment and reasoning, and ultimately affect our moral intuitions when faced with a complex decision. An awareness of these innate biases can guide product design decisions by giving important insights into customer mindsets as they move through the buyer’s journey.

I will share my perspectives from science and heuristics on customer mindsets and cognitive biases – and hence market behaviors – as they relate to the technology adoption life cycle. I hope to encourage the development of effective techniques to improve management communications and decision-making using principles of neuroscience.
