I am honored to be invited to give a talk about my recent experiences in Uganda, Africa to the international business students at SP Jain School of Management in Singapore. I embarked on a 5 week journey from Vancouver Canada to Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and Uganda from April 14 to May 19, 2017. On my first night in Singapore, I attended a Meetup group for Expats and met a local business consultant who introduced me to the global learning manager at SP Jain. The goal of the Global Learning department in Singapore is to expose the students to the business culture, festivals, traditional culture and other varied aspects of Singapore. My experiences in Uganda were of interest, and I was excited to share inspirational stories from my journey as well as a message from my nontraditional professional path.
I returned to Singapore from Uganda to revisit the country from a new perspective and to deliver my talk as an international guest speaker at SP Jain. My message was simple: Despite the overwhelming hardships in Uganda, the country abounds with the human spirit. The key is in discovering your raison d’être and defining success on your own terms.
